Ten years ago, The Impulse Group was founded with a simple idea: do engineering properly. No shortcuts – just smart people solving real problems with integrity and expertise.
A decade on, that idea hasn’t changed, but what’s grown around it certainly has.
From our earliest days, we set out to build more than a service offering. We wanted to build a business that people trusted. A place where engineers could do their best work and a culture where collaboration, curiosity and accountability weren’t slogans – they were how things actually got done.
Culture first
Culture isn’t something we added along the way. It’s been the foundation from day one. At The Impulse Group, we’ve always believed that the strongest results come from teams who trust each other, challenge each other and genuinely enjoy working together. It’s why we invest so heavily in our people – not just their technical development, but their wellbeing, confidence and voice within the business.
From offshore engineers to analysts, project managers to marketers, everyone plays a part. Egos stay at the door, opinions count and good ideas can come from anywhere.
That culture has carried us through growth, change and complexity – and it’s a big reason we’re still here, still moving forward, ten years on.
Chris Spraggon, Managing Director at The Impulse Group, says: “This journey has been shaped by so many people: every team member who’s been part of our growth, and every customer who’s trusted us to look after their assets and develop new capabilities alongside them.
“This anniversary feels like a real turning point for The Impulse Group. We started as a flexible pipe integrity specialist, focused on education and realistic risk mitigation, and today we support projects right across the subsea sector — from umbilicals and cables to control systems and structural design.”
Built on trust and proven in the field
Trust is earned offshore. It’s earned when systems perform under pressure, when problems are solved quickly and when decisions are backed by experience.
Chris remembers: “Ten years ago, we set out to build a business we’d be proud to work in and proud to put our name to offshore. One built on trust, straight talking and doing things properly.
“What makes me most proud today isn’t just how we’ve grown – it’s that we’ve stayed true to those values, and it’s our people who make that happen every single day.”
Over the past decade, our teams have supported operators around the world, tackling integrity challenges across flexible pipes, SURF systems, subsea infrastructure and beyond. We’ve grown alongside our clients by doing what we say we’ll do, delivering when it matters and staying clear-eyed about risk, safety and performance.
That trust has allowed us to expand our expertise, invest in new technologies, and confidently move into new markets – from traditional oil and gas to renewables, infrastructure and advanced engineering services.
Growing with purpose
Growth has never been about scale for scale’s sake. It’s been about capability. Today, The Impulse Group stands on a depth of expertise that spans asset integrity, advanced monitoring, AI-driven insight and bespoke engineering solutions. Our evolution into distinct but connected divisions reflects how our expertise has matured – while staying rooted in the same values that shaped us at the start.
We’ve learned to adapt without losing our identity. To innovate without losing practicality. And to push boundaries while staying grounded in engineering reality.
Looking ahead: The next 10 years
Chris concludes: “The past ten years were about building strong foundations, the next ten are about momentum.”
The challenges facing the global energy sector are complex – ageing assets, tighter regulation, digital transformation and the energy transition itself. But they’re also full of opportunity. Opportunity to optimise rather than replace. To make smarter decisions with better data. To engineer solutions that are safer, more efficient and built for the long term.
What won’t change is how we approach those challenges: with curiosity, collaboration and confidence in our people.
Chris adds: “As we look ahead to the launch of our new Enginuity division and the opportunities emerging markets will bring, I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve built together. None of this would have been possible without such a talented, committed team, and our valued partners and collaborators — and that’s what makes the last 10 years, and the next 10, so exciting.
“The next ten years are about momentum. About using everything we’ve learned – our expertise, our culture and our curiosity – to help the industry make smarter, safer and more sustainable decisions. The challenges ahead are complex, but that’s exactly where our team thrives. We’re just getting started …”
