CONTROL SYSTEM SUPPORT
Gateshead Millennium Bridge
Specialist control system support
The Impulse Group provides specialist control system support for the Gateshead Millennium Bridge, one of the UK’s most recognisable pieces of moving infrastructure.
We are responsible for the ongoing reliability and performance of the bridge’s programmable control and monitoring systems, ensuring safe and dependable operation of its motion and associated systems.
What we deliver
Our work covers the core PLC, HMI, and networked control architecture that governs bridge operation and monitoring.
This includes:
-
Fault finding and technical troubleshooting on live control systems
-
Failure investigations and root cause analysis
-
Software and system upgrades where required
-
System recovery and rebuild support following hardware issues
-
Lifecycle and obsolescence management of PLC, HMI and network equipment
-
Engineering change implementation and controlled system improvements
Our engineers support both Rockwell and Siemens control environments, managing the integration between PLCs, operator interfaces and industrial communication networks.
Engineering in a live environment
Supporting a landmark moving structure demands more than technical knowledge. It requires engineering discipline, structured change control, and a deep understanding of how critical systems behave in real operating conditions.
We work alongside the client’s operational and maintenance teams to ensure:
-
Minimal disruption to bridge operations
-
Safe, controlled system interventions
-
Clear reporting and technical transparency
-
Long-term system reliability, not short-term fixes
