RISER SYSTEM TESTING
Annulus testing in Senegal
Critical offshore riser system testing
We were deployed to support a critical offshore riser system testing campaign in Senegal for Woodside Energy where precision, reliability and regulatory compliance were paramount. Operating along the West African coastline, the project presented a complex mix of logistical, environmental and technical challenges typical of offshore operations in remote locations.
Our Senior Engineer, Matt Streeting, led the offshore execution, delivering annulus pressure testing on a riser system in line with API 17J acceptance standards. Despite variable offshore conditions — including temperature fluctuations, vessel movement and the inherent challenges of working in dynamic subsea environments — the project was completed efficiently, safely and to the client’s full technical requirements.
Improving long-term asset reliability
This project demanded more than standard testing — it required deep technical understanding, adaptability and absolute precision.
During the operation, Matt successfully executed a one-hour annulus pressure hold, meticulously capturing and validating all data to confirm system stability and compliance. Once verified, annulus pressure was carefully increased using our specialised testing equipment — a process requiring both technical insight and disciplined execution.
Our advanced annulus testing systems provided a clear operational advantage, offering:
-
High-accuracy live pressure monitoring, even in extreme offshore conditions
-
Rapid and reliable calibration, suited to dynamic vessel environments
-
Robust, field-proven equipment, designed for long-term subsea performance
These capabilities allowed us to reduce offshore mobilisation duration while maintaining full confidence in test results.
More importantly, real-time data capture and digital logging enabled immediate validation, ensuring results could be confidently fed into the client’s wider integrity management framework.
What sets The Impulse Group apart is our ability to combine engineering precision with practical problem-solving. Every intervention is data-driven, targeted and designed to deliver measurable value — from reduced offshore time to improved long-term asset reliability.
Giving operators clarity and confidence
Riser integrity is critical to offshore safety, performance and regulatory compliance. Our riser system testing services are designed to give operators clarity, confidence and control at every stage of the asset lifecycle.
By combining advanced annulus testing technology with hands-on engineering expertise, we help clients:
-
Reduce offshore time and associated vessel and personnel costs
-
Achieve accurate, compliant test results first time
-
Integrate real-time inspection data into risk-based integrity management systems
-
Support informed decisions around maintenance, life extension and operational planning
Every data point we capture offshore contributes to a broader understanding of asset condition, helping operators manage risk proactively and extend the safe service life of critical infrastructure. The result is safer operations, reduced environmental exposure and stronger long-term performance.
Whether supporting new installations, pre-commissioning activities or integrity assessments on mature assets, The Impulse Group delivers riser system testing that goes beyond compliance — turning engineering insight into long-term value.
