Known for his collaborative, hands-on approach and strong problem-solving mindset, Paul combines technical depth with clear leadership to strengthen engineering capability and project execution.

Paul is an experienced and driven mechanical engineer with a strong background in delivering practical, high-quality engineering solutions across complex and safety-critical industries. Since completing his BEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering, Paul has progressed from a design role to senior engineering leadership and held multiple technical directorships, building deep expertise across oil & gas, marine, subsea, nuclear and conveyor systems, all underpinned by his early career in the civil and structural sector.

Specialist Knowledge

His career spans over three decades, focused on engineering consultancy, project management, mechanical and structural design, fabrication and manufacture. Paul has specialist knowledge in bunkering and offloading systems, carousels, mooring systems, sea fastening and vessel stability. He also spent many years supporting the design and management of major renewable and new build/outage nuclear programmes.

As Engineering Manager at The Impulse Group, Paul helps to turn complex challenges into practical, working solutions. He is technically very hands-on, utilising his expertise in Finite Element Analysis (FEA), 3D modelling, 2D draughting and detailed design calculations to ensure excellent outcomes.

Focus and commitment

Outside of work, Paul runs his own martial arts academies in South Tyneside, teaching Japanese and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to both adults and children — dedicating over 40 years to martial arts reflects the same discipline, focus and commitment he brings to engineering.
