At The Impulse Group, we know that culture isn't just about how we work — it’s about how we connect. This Mental Health Awareness Week, we’re taking time to reflect on the power of community and what it means to be part of a workplace where you’re more than just your job title.
Because when people feel safe, included, supported and empowered, they don’t just work better — they thrive. In our latest edition of Culture Club, we’re proud to share some of the ways we’re building that kind of environment at The Impulse Group.

Mental health isn’t a side conversation. It’s either woven into the culture, or it’s not. Here at The Impulse Group, we have a range of initiatives which are part of our fabric, including: recharge days – one extra day off per quarter, no explanation needed; flexible working and regular group breaks to support a charity or a social event to bond outside of the office.
Find out more about how we’re starting to shift the dial on what support actually looks like below.
Recharge days
Modern engineering environments can be demanding — and we recognise that productivity starts with wellbeing. That’s why we’ve introduced ‘recharge days’, which give our team dedicated time to step back, reset and focus on their personal wellbeing.
These aren’t just extra days off. They’re part of our commitment to creating a culture where rest is respected and valued. Whether it's taking time with family, hitting the outdoors or simply switching off — these moments matter. A well-rested mind is a clearer, more focused and happier one.

Wednesday Wellness Walks
Every Wednesday, you’ll find us stepping away from the screens and heading outside together for our Wellness Walks. It's a small ritual with big impact — boosting physical activity, fresh air and connection in the middle of a busy week.
Sometimes we chat, sometimes we reflect — but every time, we return with clearer heads and lighter moods. It’s a chance to check in with one another, get moving and reset as a team.
Positive team philosophy
At the heart of The Impulse Group is a simple but powerful belief: we’re better together. Our positive team philosophy means we value collaboration over competition and support over ego.
This isn’t just a set of values pinned to a wall — it’s embedded in how we treat one another every day. From daily check-ins to celebrating team wins (big or small), we’re constantly building each other up. Because a healthy team culture builds psychological safety — the foundation of both innovation and wellbeing.

A fun workspace
Our office isn’t just a place to work — it’s a place to unwind, connect, and have a little fun along the way. With a dartboard, air hockey table and table football, we’ve created a space that encourages people to take breaks and genuinely enjoy spending time together.
Quick games between meetings or during lunch aren’t distractions — they’re opportunities to bond, blow off steam and recharge in a way that brings joy to the workday.
Whether it’s a friendly grudge match or spontaneous team tournament, this environment supports our belief that when people enjoy being at work, they do better work.
Flexible working
Everyone’s life looks different, and our working patterns should reflect that. We’ve embraced flexible working to make space for the different needs, routines and responsibilities our people bring to the table.
Whether it’s adjusting hours to do the school run or working from home to support focus, we believe flexibility is essential to both productivity and peace of mind. It’s about trusting our people to get the job done — their way.

Social events
Community doesn’t just form in boardrooms — it’s built in moments of laughter, conversation and connection. That’s why we prioritise getting out together as a team, whether it’s a casual drink, a celebratory meal or a competitive darts match.
These events are more than just fun — they strengthen our relationships, reduce stress and create the kind of supportive, authentic culture people want to be part of.
They remind us that we’re not just colleagues — we’re humans, and teammates.

Charity events
We’re proud of what we do, but we’re just as proud of why we do it — and the kind of impact we want to have in the world. Through fundraising, awareness campaigns and volunteering, we try to give back to our communities regularly.
Taking part in charity events connects us not only to each other, but to causes that matter beyond the workplace. It’s a reminder that we’re part of something bigger — and that generosity, compassion and kindness are all part of our culture too.
Our recent Darts Marathon in aid of MacMillan raised a whopping £2,085 and was an opportunity for the team to come together for a great cause.

Supporting local grass roots sport
Recognising the link between physical and mental wellbeing, we are proud to sponsor local girls’ football team Blakelaw Under 13 Girls.
Empowering young people at a grass roots level is important to us, opening up opportunities for young people to access sporting activities, develop skills and establish their own mini community and support network.
Building a culture of belonging
This Mental Health Awareness Week, we’re proud to say we’re doing more than just talking about wellbeing — we’re actively building a culture that supports it. A culture where people feel safe to speak up, supported when things get tough, and celebrated for who they are.
Mark, Business Development Manager at The Impulse Group, said: “We know that community doesn’t always show up in grand gestures – often, it’s seen in the quiet moments: a shared walk at lunchtime, a laugh over a charity darts match or someone simply saying, “I need a minute,” and knowing they’ll be met with respect, not resistance.”
We believe that a strong community makes us more resilient, more connected and more human. And at The Impulse Group, we’re committed to creating that — one recharge day, wellness walk, darts game, laugh and shared win at a time.
